DHAKA: A dramatic collapse by Bangladesh by squandering their last six wickets for 17-run in 39-ball led the English team to victory in the first match of three-match Rocket Dutch-Bangla Bank Mobile Banking ODI Series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur of Dhaka on Friday (October 7).
In response to England’s 309-run, at one stage, Bangladesh were cruising along with 271-run losing four wickets in 41.2-over.
Bangladesh lost the wickets of Shakib Al Hasan who was cantering scoring 79-run off 55-ball and rookie Mosaddek Hossain in the next two balls of Jake Ball.
Still, it was host Bangladesh’s game to win as they needed 39 runs from 48 balls but they ended up losing the way into darkness.
Imrul Kayes, who got the chance ahead of Soumya Sarkar to be the opening partner of Tamim Iqbal, had a point to prove and he proved that by scoring a stroke-filled century (112 off 119-ball). He was out as eighth wicket in 44-th over.
Debutant English player Ball picked up five wickets while Adil Rashid took four wickets.
Earlier, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to bat first in the match that began at 2:30 pm local time.
Visiting England batsmen set a target of 310 runs for Bangladesh as Ben Stokes produced his maiden ODI century (101-run off 100-ball), JC Buttler scored 63-run off 38-ball and Ben Duckett scored 60 runs.
Mashrafe Mortaza, Shafiul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan picked up two wickets each for Bangladesh.
