DHAKA: The International Cricket Council seemed to have mend fences with the BCCI as president Anurag Thakur is now officially a part of the powerful Finance & Commercial Affairs after completion of its board meeting in Cape Town on Friday (October 14).
The F&CA wing is arguably one of the most powerful decision making sub-committee of ICC as all the revenue related financial aspects are passed through this committee, reports the Times of India.
The BCCI had raised objections about not having it is representative in F&CA committee and senior officials in the board termed it as a humiliation with Shashank Manohar being chairman of global body.
BCCI had also raised objections about the proposed budget for next year’s Champions Trophy and board felt that their absence in F&CA has been a reason for it.
A BCCI source who is aware of the rules said that moment Thakur was made chairman of the Development Committee of ICC, he automatically became part of F&CA committee.
“The rule states that since Anurag has been made Chairman Development Committee, he is also member of the F&CA, Executive Committee (ExCo) and Governing Committee,” the source said.
While former president N Srinivasan, known for his tough stand, was the chairman of F&CA, Thakur’s presence in the powerful committees will mean that BCCI will have a bigger say in revenue related decision as well as governance structure which includes whether the number of full member voters should be increased or not.
