CHITTAGONG: Bangladesh bowled visiting England out for 293-run in their first innings of first test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Friday (October 21), thanks to debutant teenage all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz.
Former U-19 captain Mehedi picked up six wickets giving away only 80-run in 39.5-over, seconded by Sohag Gazi’s bowling figure of 6/74 and seventh Bangladesh bowler to pick up five for on debut.
Besides, Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam took two English wickets each.
Bangladesh, in their first innings, also have lost two early wickets in the form of Imrul Kayes (14) and Mominul Haque (0) in the off-spin of Moeen Ali.
Currently, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah are on the crease with 32 and 17 runs respectively as the home team have scored 71-run.
Earlier, England batsmen resumed their batting in the second day with their overnight score of 258 losing seven wickets. Woakes and Adil Rashid were in the crease with 36 and 5 runs respectively.
Taijul Islam picked up his first wicket in the match in the very first ball on the second day as Woakes propped uncertainly forward, and squeezed an inside-edge into the hands of short leg without disturbing the scorer anymore.
Adil Rashid was the second hunt of Taijul. Rashid made some room outside off to drill through the covers off the back foot, but another debutant, Sabbir, at short cover pounces expertly, low to his left to intercept and send Rashid on his way.
Stuart Broad was the last man to out in the bowl of Mehedi Hasan.
Earlier, England captain Cook won the toss and decided to bat first in the match that Bangladesh are playing after 14 months.
Bangladesh had made early inroads into the English batting line-up picking up three English wickets in the first hour of day’s play as Mehedi Hasan took two and ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket.
England, however, managed to dig deep in their batting line-up with the assistance of Moeen Ali, Bairstow, Root and Woakes who scored 68, 52, 40 and 36 runs respectively.
Bangladesh is playing with three debutants -- Sabbir Rahman, former U-19 captain of Bangladesh Mehedi Hasan Miraj and Kamrul Islam Rabbi while England have one debutant -- Ben Duckett.
