DHAKA: Host New Zealand whitewashed Bangladesh in the two-match test series by beating the visitors by nine wickets in the second match at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Monday (January 23).
The Kiwis chased down the target of 109-run losing one wicket on the fourth day evening session. Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme scored 41 and 33 runs while Raval returned to pavilion after scoring 33-run.
Kamul Islam Rabbi picked the wicket of Raval.
Earlier in the day, visiting batsmen scored 173-run losing all wickets in their second innings of the test. Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar, Taskin Ahmed, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 38, 36, 33, 25* and 12 runs respectively.
Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner picked up three wickets each while Colin de Grandhomme took one.
Earlier, host New Zealand resumed their batting with 260/7 on the fourth day morning as rain washed the third day of the test match.
Henry Nicholls played a responsible knock but fell short of two runs to reach his maiden century in test cricket. He, however, helped his team take a healthy lead of 65-run as the Kiwis scored 354-run in their first innings in response to Bangladesh’s 289-run.
Bangladesh were swept in the T20Is, swept in the ODIs and swept in the Tests. The visitors have been outplayed by a better team.
The limited-overs series were more one-sided, but Bangladesh did have their share of moments in both the Tests. It came down to them not being able to capitalize on them.
Bangladesh had positives to take from the series - their batting in the first innings in Wellington and Shakib Al Hasan’s double-century immediately come to mind. But they also walk away from this series seeking many answers.
