The tigers elevated their ranking through sealing a five-wicket win against New Zealand in the tri-nation series in Dublin of Ireland on Wednesday (May 24).
Earlier, Bangladesh went into the tri-nation series with 91 rating points.
Tigers finished the series with 93 rating points to pass the Lankans, who were previously No 6.
Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, tigers sent out a warning to their opponents by defeating New Zealand by five wickets to hand the Kiwis their first loss in the tri-series.
Chasing 271, Tamim Iqbal (65) and Sabbir Rahman (65) put Bangladesh on course before solid contributions from Mahmudullah (46*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (45*) helped the team register their first win against New Zealand overseas.
Earlier, Tom Latham led from the front for New Zealand as his 84 helped the team reach 270/8.
