DHAKA: Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal Shakib are playing the key role to take an 88-run lead at stumps on day-2 of the opening test lead against Australia at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Bangladesh scored 45 for one wicket in 22 overs in their second innings. Earlier the visiting Australia bowled out at 217 in response to Tigers’ 260 from first innings.
Riding on Shakib Al Hasan’s five-wicket haul, 16th in Test cricket, Bangladesh bowled out Australia for 217. The visiting Australia started their day with a positive approach but soon lost skipper Steve Smith. Shakib and Mehedi struck at regular intervals, Pat Cummins and Ashton Agar forged a 49-run ninth wicket partnership.
Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar gave a steady and solid start to the hosts before Khwaja completed a catch on fourth attempt to dismiss Soumya. Bangladesh will begin Day 3 with Tamim and Taijul Iqbal.
Australia lost its all wickets achieving 217-run in their first innings against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
Shakib Al Hasan bags highest five wickets, while Mehedi Hasan Miraz bags four wickets.
Earlier on Sunday (Aug 27), Bangladesh bundled out for 260 while facing the controlled Australian bowling. Though Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan both were able to hit fifties, the rest of the team could not respond in a subtle manner.
In response to Bangladesh’s 260, Aussies managed to score 18 runs in nine overs after loosing three wickets to tigers in the first day. Australia will continue the battle in the second day with the goal of 261 runs.
