Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has received a spot in the World Cricket committee as a first ever Bangladeshi cricketer.
MCC World Cricket committee confirmed the appointment in a letter to Shakib, said International Cricket Council (ICC). The appointment has been effective from Oct 1.
Expressing happiness by posting a photo of the MCC letter in Facebook, Shakib said, “I am honored to be appointed as a member of MCC cricket Committee. Thanks for giving me such respect.”
MCC World Cricket committee was established in April 2006. It is an independent body comprised of current and former international cricketers and umpires from around the world. The committee acts as a complementary body to ICC and its constituent nations.
Mike Gatting is the current chairman of the committee that sits twice in a year to discuss the prevalent issues in the game.
Shakib is joined by Ramiz Raja, Sourav Ganguly, Charlotte Edwards, Vintcent Van der Bijl, Jimmy Adams, Rod Marsh, Tim May, Brendon McCullum, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Ian Bishop, Kumar Dharmasena and Suzie Bates in the committee, according to the website of Lord's cricket ground, home of MCC.
