Elon Musk has alleged that his social media platform, X, was targeted in a large-scale cyberattack after a significant outage left thousands of users unable to access their accounts.

According to Downdetector.com, reports of disruptions peaked at 10:00 and 14:00 GMT on Monday, affecting more than 40,000 users. The platform experienced major service interruptions, with the highest concentration of issues reported along the US coasts.

Approximately 56% of complaints were related to the X mobile app, while 33% involved problems accessing the website.

Musk took to X to assert that cyberattacks on the platform were a regular occurrence but claimed this particular incident was backed by substantial resources and potentially orchestrated by a large, coordinated group or even a nation-state. However, he did not provide any supporting evidence for his claims.

This is not the first time X, formerly Twitter, has faced technical difficulties. In March 2023, the platform suffered widespread glitches, preventing users from logging in, loading images, and accessing links for over an hour.

Since acquiring Twitter in 2022, Musk has significantly reduced the company's workforce, leading to frequent technical problems and shifts in platform dynamics.

The latest outage has sparked speculation about possible links to Musk’s involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he has played a key role in streamlining federal operations under former President Donald Trump.

Reports suggest that DOGE has already cut 25,000 jobs, with an additional 75,000 employees opting for buyouts.

Musk’s claims have fueled further debate about cybersecurity threats and the stability of the platform amid ongoing political and corporate shifts.
