DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday categorically said that if necessity arises, services of social communication media like Viber and Whatsapp would be blocked temporarily to stop cyber crimes in the country.

In response to a question of MP Hazi M Selim, the premier came up with the assertion in the parliament this afternoon.

She further said that some people are misusing the opportunities of country’s digitalization and making others victims of it.

“But, the government planned to keep Viber and Whatsapp blocked for shorter period to arrest terrorists,” she informed the House.

Sheikh Hasina also urged people and the media to come forward to help apprehend miscreants and extremists.
