Govt decides to reopen Facebook

DHAKA: The government has taken decision to reopen the popular social media Facebook in the country.

Post and Telecommunication state minister Tarana Halim informed the media at secretariat in city on Thursday.

Earlier on December 6, the government held a meeting with Facebook authorities aiming to reach consent to stop violence against women and other offences through the popular social media.

Two officials of Facebook’s Asia Pacific region Deepali Liberhan (South Asia policy manager) and Vikram Langye (political and legal adviser) attended the meeting with home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, information and communication technology (ICT) state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Tarana Halim at the home ministry.

However, the government shut down the Facebook on November 18 for security concern.
