DHAKA: State Minister for Power Division Nasrul Hamid inaugurated pre-paid meters in the officers’ colony community centre in Azimpur area of the city on Sunday afternoon.

Some 5,000 pre-paid meters, worth Tk 226 crore, have been set-up in the area as a part of five separate projects.

Some 145,000 more pre-paid meters will be set-up under the projects.

Residential users can recharge Tk 5,000 at a time. Vending machines, for recharging, have been established at Azimpur office of DPDC (Dhaka Power Distribution Company).

Deputy General Manager of DPDC Quamrul Ahsan said the connection would not be cut off on the weekly and government holidays even if the balance ends.

“The connection will be cut off automatically if the customers do not recharge on the next working day of weekly and government holidays,” he said.

All the customers would be brought under the service shortly, he added.

The project is being implemented by the financial helps of German government-owned development bank KFW, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and DPDC’s own fund.

With additional secretary of Power Division Tapos Kumar Roy, also DPDC Chairman, in the chair, Hazi M Selim MP, managing director of DPDC Brigadier (retd) Nazrul Hasan and director of Bangladesh Diesel Plant Ltd Brigadier General Asif Ahmed Ansari were among others present at the programme.
