SIBL chairmen’s resignation demanded

DHAKA: Members of the board of directors at Social Islami Bank Limited (SIBL) have got divided among themselves, locked into disputes and each side is taking strategies to beat the other side.

The in-house conflict came to daylight after banners were seen hanging in demanding resignation of bank chairman Major (retd) Dr M Rezaul Haque at different parts of the city, including Motijheel area.

Bank sources also confirmed the matter to banglanews. “These (hanging of the banners) revealed that there have been conflicts among the members of the board of directors,” said a director of the bank, who wished not to be named.

Rezaul was elected the chairmen of the bank’s board of director in 2013 and elected as the bank chairmen that year too, according to the bank sources.

The banners were hanged under the banner of ‘General Investors’ on which, Rezaul was cited as a corrupted person and some 85,000 investors of the bank want Rezaul to resign.

Any untoward situation may happen at the bank anytime, if the conflict continues. Sometimes, each side brought outsiders at the meeting of the board of the director to show their power.

Talking about whether the bank fell in image crisis in such situation, the director admitted that the hanging of banner caused an embarrassing situation to them.

Recently, a meeting of Mercantile Bank’s board of directors broke up due to dispute and conflict among the members.
