Intertek launches ‘Softline Lab’ in BD

DHAKA:  Intertek, a UK-based leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, launched the largest ‘Softline Lab’ in Dhaka on Wednesday to strengthen the country’s growing readymade garment industry’s potentiality.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed inaugurated the lab at Phoenix Tower in Tejgaon Industry Area of the city.

Intertek will tests the quality of products of different brands for the foreign companies and buyers at the lab. Besides, quality of the domestic products will also be test there.

Intertek South Asia regional managing director Rajesh Saigal said, “The coordinated test opportunities at the lab will remove all existing drawbacks of the industries.”

“The lab will play the stand-by role to the people concerned to take the opportunity of the growing business across the region,” Rajesh added.

The lab will be a one-stop testing facility for all quality and safety assurance solutions across industry players in South Asia for countries like India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.

The company promises to give one-stop service to ensure the quality of and security to the products. Tests including quality of RMG and footwear products, food, minerals, cargo, agro and GTS can be done at the lab.

About the one-stop service, Intertek Bangladesh managing director Kartik N D said, “The new lab, which is located on a lakh square feet area, has several new tests in addition to the existing tests, those will improve the quality of the products, made in Bangladesh.”

British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Gibson, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) vice-president Md Shahidullah Azim, Phoenix Group chairman Deen Mohammad, Intertek South Asia business development and marketing head Madhumita Guha, among others, present at the function.
