Business to reduce poverty

DHAKA: Speakers hoped to make conducive business environment as there is a causal link between business and reduction of poverty.

They made the remarks while speaking in a round table discussion titled ‘Inclusive Business in the context of Bangladesh: Prospects and Challenges’ organized by Swisscontact and GIZ international services in a hotel in city on June 29.

The organizers are also implementing, Katalyst, a project under ministry of commerce on Inclusive business.

The event covered discussions on various aspects of inclusive business including its current status, challenges, prospects and roles of different stakeholders in the context of Bangladesh. 

Participants from different sectors and industries including, Lalteer, Petrochem, Nestle, Ispahani, AC Nielsen, DFID, BIDS, Bangladesh Bank discussed openly on the topic and what they are doing to practice and promote inclusive business in Bangladesh and how it is benefiting the poor in rural areas as well as bringing profits to their own concern. 

Participants appreciated the initiative of Katalyst and hoped that Katalyst would arrange similar events for promotion of inclusive business in Bangladesh. 

Mahbub Ahmed, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Commerce attended the event as the Chief Guest. 

Samuel Bon, CEO of Swisscontact participated as special guest. Markus Ehmann, General Manager Katalyst, opened the discussion and eminent economist Dr. Golam Moazzem presented a key note on the topic.
