DHAKA: Branches of all banks will remain open on July 26 though a weekend in Dhaka and Chittagong.

Sources said that the central bank on Thursday asked the chief executives of the banks to keep their branches open in Dhaka and Chittagong with their adjacent areas.

The decision is aimed at enabling the payment of wages, salaries and allowances ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr of different offices and institutions.

However, Bangladesh Bank also asked the banks to ensure ‘adequate security’ of the branches that day.

Sources added that the central bank has also suggested paying bank officers and employees for working on a weekend holiday.
