DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday said the incumbent government is planning to sign an agreement with India with a view to traveling through waterway.

The finance minister came up with the disclosure while talking to journalists after a cabinet meeting on tourism.

He said, “Bangladesh has a treaty of carrying goods using river routes but no treaty is yet to be inked for traveling through waterways.”

“So, we have decided to sign an agreement with the neighboring country for traveling on river routes,” he said.

The ruling Awami League lawmaker also said, “We will step forward if prime minister gives her nod to this cabinet decision.”

He told the newsmen that security is important in flourishing country’s tourism. Especially, security measures should be increased in Chittagong Hill Tracts region, he observed.

Besides, special package can be introduced for the tourists who want to use river routes, he added.
