DHAKA: Country’s inflation rate dropped by 0.13 percent to 6.91 percent in August from 7.04 percent in the previous month.

Planning minister AHM Mostafa Kamal came up with the disclosure on Thursday at a press conference at planning commission in city’s Agargaon area.

Kamal said, inflation rate was 6.91 percent at the national and general level, which was 7.04 percent in July and 7.39 percent in August, 2013.

In August, food and non-food inflations were 7.67 percent and 5.76 percent respectively, which were 7.94 percent and 5.71 percent respectively in July, he added.

Regarding the decease of inflation rate, the minister said, we imported 50 percent of foods, including the daily essentials, and food price in abroad has also been lessened much.

Asked whether flood has impact on inflations, Kamal said, flood happens every year, their will be no impact on inflations unless flood stays for long.

In August, point-to-point inflation rate has stood at 6.83 percent in rural and general level, which was 6.93 in July, he said.

Planning Division secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics director general Golam Mostafa Kamal and Planning Commission (general economic division) Dr. Shamshul Alam, among others, were present at the press conference.
