DHAKA: Grand Sultan Tea Resort and Golf’, a five-star resort with an area of 13.2 acres of attractive land in the backdrop of scenic tea estates in Srimangal, has been running its business in a full swing for one-year without any license.

Moreover, the hotel does not have any environment and bar clearance certificates.

According to the law, the hotel owners must take a license from Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry to run hotel business.

The hotel is 191 kilometers away from the capital.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Khorshed Alam made the allegations against Grand Sultan Hotel at a seminar.

Tourism Resort Industries Association of Bangladesh (TRIAB) organized the seminar on the role of resorts in tourism at Abakash hotel in city on Thursday.

He said local administration submitted several reports of irregularities done by the hotel. If I take any initiatives against them I will be considered as a person against tourism.

“So that I can not take any actions against them,” he added.

Tourism writer Ziaul Haque Haolader said that the resort owners have invested some Tk 20,000-crore which is the highest investment in private sector.

The rural people are being benefited from these hotels, he added.

He also said the people around the hotel areas are being employed directly or indirectly.

Moreover, they can sell their products to the tourists.

The tourists are fond of local foods, handicrafts and agricultural products, he added.

The Civil Aviation and Tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon was present as chief guest where the president of TRIAB Khabir Uddin Ahmed chaired the program.

According to the experts, the tourism sector has a great potentiality in the country and the people are becoming financially solvent from it.
