DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank (BB) has asked the commercial banks to keep open their branches, which deal with the garment industries, on October 3, though a public holiday, prior to Eid-ul-Azha.

The central bank on Tuesday issued a circular, signed by its deputy general manager, to the banks asking them to keep open their branches located in Dhaka city, Ashulia, Savar, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chittagong on the day.

Sources said the Bangladesh Bank issued the order so that the owners of the garment factories can pay salaries and festival bonuses for the Eid to their employees through the branches.

However, the BB has also asked the bank authorities to make adequate security measures for the branches during the working hours along with confirming overtime payments to the bank staff.
