DHAKA: Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Tuesday categorically said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon did not talk over any interim elections.

The foreign minister came up with the assertion while talking to journalists after returning from the 69th Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the secretariat.

The meeting between the premier and the UN secretary general was held in a cordial atmosphere.

In response to queries of journalists, minister said they did not talk about interim elections rather the UN secretary general praised the premier for the stable situation in the country after the January 5 general elections.

Besides, Minister Mahmood Ali claimed that the meeting between Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi was very effective.

Modi assured to resolve all the unresolved issues, including Land Boundary Agreement and Teesta Water Sharing Deal, the newsmen were told.

AL senior leader further claimed: “Modi said Bangabandhu made Bangladesh and his daughter Hasina saved it.”

Modi also sought Sheikh Hasina’s help in the concurrent development of South Asia, he added.

The Indian premier also accepted the invitation to visit Bangladesh but the date is yet to be fixed, Mahmood Ali added.

He also said that there is no chance of Bangladesh’s joining in the anti-IS alliance led by USA.
