Russia-BD Joint Working Group in Moscow

DHAKA: A five-member delegation from Bangladesh left Dhaka this evening to participate in the 2nd meeting of the Russia-Bangladesh Joint Working Group on Nuclear Infrastructure Development to be held in Moscow from November 10 to 13.

Rabindranath Roy Chowdhury, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology and the Co-chairman of the Working Group will lead the Bangladesh side at the meeting.

During the meeting Bangladesh side will present a report on current status of nuclear industry in Bangladesh and the country's expected support from Russia for the sector.

On the other hand, Russian side will make several presentations on Quality Assurance, Budgeting and Cost Management, Preparation of General Contract, Project Management in Implementing NPP Constructions. Both sides will thoroughly discuss working plan for nuclear infrastructure.

Besides, Bangladesh delegation will visit various facilities at Novovaronez Nuclear power plant, including Control Room, Turbine Hall, Full Scale Simulator, Training Center and Emergency Preparedness Center as well as ongoing constructions process.

They will also be acquainted with Visual Prototyping and Crisis Centers of Rosenergoatom, Russian nuclear power station operations company.

A Joint Working Group on Nuclear Infrastructure Development was formed following a decision at the first meeting of the Russia-Bangladesh Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC), held in Moscow on July 22-23, 2014.

Under an inter-governmental agreement between Russia and Bangladesh, signed in November, 2011 Russia's state nuclear energy corporation-ROSATOM will build and operate Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at Ishwardi having two units, each with 1,000MW capacity. Primary construction of the project is underway and the second phase of construction is expected to begin in 2016.
