Market capital rises despite decline in trade

DHAKA: Despite the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has witnessed a decline in trading, its market capital increased by Tk 4.5 thousand crore this week.

The share market was on a bull run on most of the days this week. Companies of financial, power and energy sector saw a sharp rise in prices. Prices of the banks showed upward trend on the closing day of the week.

The DSE capital for the first time jumped over Tk three lakh this week adding around Tk 227 crore within a week.

Total turnover in DSE between August 8 and August 14 was Tk 7444.98 crore which made an average trading Tk 1861.24 crore a day.

The total turnover last week was Tk 9,944.42 crore while the average trading was Tk 1988.88 crore a day.

Price of most of the shares traded increased along with rise in general index this week despite decrease of trade.

On the last day of the week, the DSE general index was 6743.21 point which was 6672.97 last week.
