WB to invest large sum in Bangladesh

DHAKA: World Bank (WB) president Jim Young Kim on Monday (October 17) said about funding a large amount of money by International Development Association (IDA) for the development of Bangladesh.

The International Development Association (IDA) is the arm of the World Bank Group that works in the world's poorest countries.

Jim Young Kim came up with the assertion while talking to journalists after a meeting with finance minister AMA Muhith at his Secretariat office in the morning.

WB President further said they have increased the IDA fund for financing. “We will collect $25-billion from the open market in this regard.”

“Bangladesh has achieved remarkable success in alleviating poverty as well as in beating tuberculosis, diarrhea and child mortality.”

In answer to a question by a journalist, Kim said they are planning to invest in other sectors instead of Padma Bridge project.

“I had a discussion with the finance minister in this regard,” he added.
