DHAKA: Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and Bangladesh Cotton Association (BCA) are set to jointly organize the Global Cotton Summit 2017, the largest summit in textile and cotton sectors, in Dhaka on January 27.
BTMA vice chairman Mohammad Ali Khokon made the disclosure in a press conference at BTMA conference room in city’s Karwan Bazar on Wednesday (January 25).
Khokon said we absolutely depend on India for organic cotton import and the summit is being organized aiming to reduce that dependency while expanding the import ground with more countries.
He further said Bangladesh is hoping for USD 50 billion imports on textile and clothing sectors within 2021 and uninterrupted supply of yarn and cotton are needed to implement that.
The Foreign Affairs minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali will inaugurate the summit at city’s Radisson Blu Water Garden around 10:00am on January 27.
India, Sudan, United Kingdom, Singapore, Switzerland, Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Turkey, Iran will participate in the two-day long summit.
