DHAKA: The Supreme Court on Monday (March 27) fixed March 30 for hearing an appeal plea filed challenging the High Court order that postponed the election of the governing body of FBCCI, the apex body of Bangladeshi traders.

The full bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, pronounced the order in the morning.

Attorney general Mahbubey Alam moved for FBCCI in the court while Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud and Barrister Badruddoza Badal moved for the Mymensingh businessman who filed an appeal with the High Court seeking postponement of FBCCI poll.

Barrister Badruddoza Badal said the court fixed the date as there was a mistake in the appeal plea of FBCCI.

Earlier, Mymensingh district business chamber president Aminul Haque Shamim filed an appeal with the High Court seeking postponement of FBCCI election claiming that no representative of Mymensingh division was included in the traders’ body.

On March 22, the High Court postponed the FBCCI election, scheduled to be held on May 14, for two months after Aminul Haque Shamim had filed an appeal with the court.

Later, the acting president of FBCCI filed an appeal plea with the Appellate Division seeking a stay of the order.

On March 23, Appellate Division chamber Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain sent the plea to the full bench.
