DHAKA: A delegation of Vietnam led by Do Huu Huy, Deputy Director General of Ministry of Industry and Trade (Department of Africa and Southeast Asia Market) of that country, is now in Dhaka for a three-day day tour.

The 22-member business delegation arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday (August 09) to conduct market survey as well as B2B meeting.

Bangladesh-Vietnam Chambers of Commerce and Industry (BVCCI), Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and Embassy of Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Bangladesh organized the B2B meeting followed by a seminar on ‘Bangladesh-Vietnam Trade and Investment Promotion’ on Wednesday (August 09).

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed was present at the seminar as the chief guest, while Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon was present as the special guest.

President of the BVCCI S.M Rahman chaired the function, while Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Tran Van Khoa and visiting Do Huu Huy represented Vietnam in the seminar.

In their speech, they focused bilateral trade relation between the two countries and different sectors of business opportunity.  They spoke about the opportunity of importing agro machinery, stone and minerals, processed food items, construction materials and electrical and mechanical accessories from Vietnam.

Tofail Ahmed in his speech focused on promoting joint venture companies between the two countries. He pointed out that the import tax regulation regarding pharmaceutical products needs to be relaxed in Vietnam to make way for Bangladeshi pharmaceutical products to Vietnam. He also encouraged investments from Vietnam and more exports from Bangladesh from all business sectors.

Rashed Khan Menon in his speech encouraged more Vietnam investments in Bangladesh in agro, machinery, tourism and technological sector. He also suggested toestablish pathways to increase export from Bangladesh to Vietnam.

Niaz Rahim, Group Director of Rahimafrooz, Hafizur Rahman Khan, Chairman of Runner Group of Companies, Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bachchu, Managing Director of Karigor Development Technology Ltd,  Syed Aksanul Alam, Managing Director of Transmit Ltd Shahidullah Khan, Managing Director of Media New Age Ltd, Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, President of FBCCI,  and Dr Md Nasiruddin, CEO of Bangladesh Tourism Board, also attended the function, among others.
