DHAKA: Edison Group, a leading multinational business platform of the country, inaugurated its export oriented footwear factory in Gazipur on Saturday (October 07).

The new factory- Edison Footwear Ltd locates at Taltoli under Hotapara area in Gazipur.

Member of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Md. Lutfour Rahman Sarker, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gazipur Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir inaugurated the new factory. Chairman of Edison Group Mr. Aminur Rashid and Managing Director Jakaria Shahid and other high officials of the group were also present in the ceremony.

The Edison Group is well-known for its mobile handset brand, Symphony, which holds number one position in Bangladesh mobile market. Edison Footwear Limited is the group’s latest venture. 

Md. Lutfour Rahman Sarker said that various businesses of Edison Group are doing well and the group has gained the trust of their customers. These ventures are creating employment opportunities and also contributing to the country’s economy. “I hope this recent venture, Edison Footwear, will also be very successful so that people can recognize our country as one of the best footwear producers in the world”, he said.

“The new factory will create employment for almost 1200 people and these footwear products will be created exclusively to be exported to foreign countries” said Aminur Rashid.

Jakaria Shahid said that the factory will eliminate poverty by creating employment opportunities and will contribute to country’s economy by earning foreign currencies.  

Director of Edison Footwear Ltd, Franco Colombo, expects to produce 20 million pear every year.
