DHAKA: The country’s first ever ‘Bangladesh Leather Footwear & Leatherwoods International Sourcing Show (BLLISS)-2017’ will be held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka from November 16 to 18.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the event.
Leatherwoods and Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) will organize the three-day show in collaboration with Ministry of Commerce under the thematic tagline: ‘Think Ahead, Think Bangladesh’.
The LFMEAB and the ministry arranged a press conference at The Westin Hotel in the capital city to brief the overall preparation and expected outcomes of the show.
Shubashis Basu, Commerce Secretary, Md. Saiful Islam, President of LFMEAB, Michael Schultheiss, Deputy Head of Mission of Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dhaka, Christian Ewert, Director General of Foreign Trade Association (FTA) based in Brussels, and Chen Shao Tseng, Managing Director, Patenga Footwear (Pvt.) Ltd were present at the press conference, among others.
Leading leather manufacturing companies operating in/from Bangladesh will show exciting collection of their products. There will be 7 pavilions & 25 stands.
Shubashis Basu said that as part of the policy drive to orient Bangladesh’s economy towards export diversification, the government has declared leather, footwear and leather products tas he national ‘Product of the Year’ 2017. Following this declaration, the LFMEAB and the Ministry of Commerce conceived the idea to organize BLLISS 2017. This show will be instrumental in achieving 5bn export earning target by 2021, he said.
Md. Saiful Islam said that the purpose of this show is to turn Bangladesh into a sourcing hub by bringing buyers, global retailers, international sourcing agents to see the quality and range of products, enabling direct interaction with local manufacturers & exporters.
