DHAKA: A special court of Dhaka sentenced five former officials of Oriental Bank Ltd to 68-year jail term each, in 4 separate cases filed over mishandling loans.

The convicts are—Shah Md Harun, Abul Kashem Mahmudullah, Mahmud Hossain, Kamrul Islam and Bazlur Rahman.

Each of the five has been given 17-year jail sentence in a case and 10-year sentence in another of the four cases.    

All of the convicts are absconding.

Dhaka Special Court-5 Judge Akhtaruzzaman announced the verdict Tuesday (April 17).

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Abdul Latif, as the plaintiff, filed the cases with Motijheel Police Station on December 29, 2006.

All of the convicts were employed in Motijheel Bank of Oriental Bank Ltd.
