DHAKA: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) demanded exemption of tax at source on the export of apparel products for the next three years.
Also, they presented 11-point demand which includes reduction of corporate tax from 12 to10 per cent.
BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman laid out their demand at a press conference, organized in the conference room of National Board of Revenue (NBR), in city’s Segun Bagicha area on Tuesday (April 24). .
Representatives of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Textiles Mils Association (BTMA), senior officials of NBR were present while NBR chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan in the chair.
In the meeting, BGMEA president said, "In the garment sector, out of 30 billion dollars of export, source tax ranges from 2000 to 2500 crore taka. Withdraw this source tax. And fix corporate tax at 10 per cent in all sectors, including garment sector. Besides, we demand online-based NBR audit system.”
A written proposal was submitted to the NBR.
Everyone has to be given equal opportunity to export local products. Everyone’s export needs to grow. Otherwise, it would not be possible to be a developing country, said NBR Chairman.
