DHAKA: The government on Thursday (June 7) has proposed a Tk 4,64,573 crore budget for 2018-19, fixing the target of attaining a higher GDP growth of 7.8 percent in the financial year.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith is placing the 103-page budget with Tk 1,25,293 crore deficit which is five percent of GDP.
Of the deficit, Tk 50,016 crore will be financed from external sources and Tk 71,226 crore from domestic sources.
The finance minister is placing the 47th national budget in parliament, expressing his hopes to be able to steer the economy out of the present pressures and problems.
The revenue target of the budget has been fixed at Tk 3,39,280 crore. Out of this, Tk 2,96,201 crore will accrue from NBR sources.
Earlier in the day, the cabinet in a meeting at Sangsad Bhaban chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the budget, which is about 16 percent bigger than that of 2017-18 Fiscal Year.
Muhith is placing the budget in the House through power-point presentation, with Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
The Jatiya Sangsad will pass the budget on June 26. Theme of this FY’s budget is “Bangladesh on the passage of prosperous future.”
