DHAKA: Nasrul Hamid, state minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, made a courtesy call on Ian Paul Steff, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing in U.S. Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration in Washington DC on Tuesday (June 26).

During the meeting, the secretaries discussed various issues related to mutual interest. 

Mentioning the potentials of the power and Energy sector of Bangladesh, Nasrul Hamid told Ian Paul, “There are plenty of opportunities for trade in production, circulation and distribution sectors. Some 82.5 billion US dollars investment is being expected within 2041. The huge investment might come from government and private sectors. We are welcoming the US to invest in our country it has relatively less investment in Bangladesh.       

There are plenty of business opportunities in the energy sector too. LNG and LPG will play an effective role in ensuring security of future energy sector. Besides, gas and oil exploration works are also underway. Scada, ERP and online services are rapidly increasing and the US might contribute in these activities, he said. 

On the other hand, Ian Paul praised Bangladesh for its recent success in extensive development. The assistant secretary also expressed his interest in opening a US business office in Dhaka.

State owned oil company Petro Bangla chairman Abul Mansur Md Faizullah among others were also present at the time.
