Export target set at $44bn for FY19

DHAKA: The government has set an export target of earning USD 44 billion in the current fiscal.

Of the USD 44 billion, 36 billion has been set to earn from product exports and 5 billion from service sector. 

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed announced the export target for 2018-19 fiscal in secretariat on Wednesday afternoon (August 8).

The minister said the export target for last fiscal year was USD 41 billion whereas USD 40.949 billion has been earned from exports.

Moreover, in 2017-18, the growth was 6.36 percent in the export sector and 7.43 percent in service sector. The growth has been set at 6.47 percent in the export sector this year.

Besides, export target and growth in readymade garment sector are set at USD 32.69 billion and 6.78 percent. In last year, the target was USD 30.61 billion while USD 31 billion was earned with 8.76 percent growth.

The minister finally said that the total export earning will cross USD 60 billion if such growth continues.
