DHAKA: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said the government has no plans to export rawhide considering the welfare of leather industries.
The minister said this to reporters at the secretariat on Sunday (August 26).
Tofail Ahmed said, “Leather industries of the country would be destroyed if rawhide is exported. Last year, leather was declared 'Product of the Year'. Government is careful not to ruin this potential sector in any way.”
In reply to a question, he expressed government’s concern regarding solutions to different problems associated with leather industries.
“I had a conversation with leaders of Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA). Besides, problems of tannery factories in Savar will also be resolved. As bank has been opened, the transaction of the bank will be done properly. So, there will be no crisis of leather,” he added.
