DHAKA: The Home Ministry is planning high-tech protection system including CCTV surveillance for Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, vowing smooth traffic and drop offensive use of the four-lane road.
Sources said devices having ability of reading vehicle number plates automatically, will also be brought here.
More improvised devices will be used to detect illegal goods and control over-speed vehicles.
1,427 CCTV cameras will be installed on the highway stretching some 264 km.
Bangladesh Police will implement the project initiated by the Home Ministry roughly titled as ‘enhancing the capability of highway police’.
Once the plans are materialized, the unfit vehicles and the speedy ones will face case automatically, said Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police (Development) Gazi Md Mojammel Huq.
