DHAKA: National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan inaugurated a week-long programme to mark the National VAT Day and VAT Week on Monday (December 10) by releasing balloons and pigeons.
With the slogan ‘VAT Dichhe Janogan, Desher Hochhe Unnayan’, the NBR initiated the ‘National VAT Week-2018’ from December 10 to December 15.
Addressing the inaugural function in front of NBR Office, Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said that Value Added Tax (VAT) is a notable part of realizing revenue as it is around 37-38 percent of the overall revenue collection by the government.
It is important to bring all the departments of NBR under full automation, the NBR boss said, adding that “Automation is under process and it will be completed very soon. If the automation process is done properly, then it will be possible to get accurate information on VAT and tax,”
He also said there is no alternative to increase the revenue collection for the sake of development of the country,
In the populous country like Bangladesh, the government has to get more VAT, but it is not fulfilled, the NBR chairman said.
Film Actors Ferdous, Afzal Hossain, NBR members Ziauddin Mahmud, Kanan Kumar Roy, Rezaul Hasan, Shahnaj Parvin, Jamal Hossain and other senior officials of NBR were present at the programme as special guests.
