SYLHET: Trashing the report of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) about looting of Taka 22,502 crore from the banking sector, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith termed it ‘just rubbish.’
The finance minister came up with the remark after visiting shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal in Sylhet on Tuesday (December 11).
CPD held a seminar on the country’s banking sector at a city’s hotel on Saturday (December 8).
Dr Fahmida Khatun presented the report stating that a total of Taka 22,502 crore has been looted from the banking sector during the two terms of ruling Awami League government.
The cause was attributed to irregularities and corruption, which is three forth of the total cost estimated for the Padma Bridge construction, said the report.
The money was gone through 14 banks, including government, private and Bangladesh Bank from 2009 to 2017, report also said.
Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was campaigning for his party candidate (AL) for Sylhet-1 constituency Dr. A K Abdul Momen, who happens to be his brother.
Muhith distributed leaflets among people at Dargah area of the shrine.
