DHAKA: Turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) dipped to Tk 3145.61 million on Monday -- the lowest in nine months – due to investors’ watchfulness amid political tensions ahead of the general election.
It is the lowest single-day transactions since March 28, 2018, when the turnover was recorded at Tk 2773.58 millions.
“Almost all the sector experienced price correction today. The market remained downward throughout the day by reflecting investors watchfulness as political tensions weighed on the investors' sentiment”, said EBL Securities Ltd in its daily analysis.
The day's turnover, a vital indicator of the market, slipped down by 18.51 per cent, compared with the previous day's transactions of Tk 4996.97 million.
DSEX, the prime index of DSE, shed over 33 points or 0.62 percent to stand at 5,218.01 points at the end of day’s trading.
Trade deals stood at 91,380 with transaction at over Tk 3,145.61 million. Of the issues traded, 61 advanced, 231 declined and 47 remained unchanged.
Square Pharmaceuticals Limited topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 101.88 million having changed hands on the day.
Meanwhile, the CSE also followed the trend as CASPI, the overall index of the port city bourse, lost over 97.13 points to stand at 16,028.45 on Monday.
Of the issues traded in the port city share market, 42 gained, 171 declined and 24 remained unchanged. The total value of exchange was over Tk 110.63 million on the day.
