DHAKA: State Minister Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said electricity could be exported besides importation, in line with the changes developed in worldwide power and fuel trade.
“We are thinking over exporting electricity to Nepal in next winter. Because, we have less demand in that season,” he said.
On Tuesday (Jan 1), Nasrul Hamid was exchanging greetings with the reporters for his win from Dhaka-3 in the 11th parliamentary elections.
Regarding the Indian government’s recent relax on electricity export-import terms, he said: “It’s a great opportunity for us. Now we can import electricity at low price. Besides, we can export (electricity) when we will have sufficient reserve.”
The state minister further said $40 billion will be required in next five years to keep pace with globalization.
“We have to increase investment. Proceedings are underway for these,” he added.
