DHAKA: Stocks ended lower on the bourses Monday (Jan 7), the second trading session of the week, with turnover decreased from the previous session.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 31.82 points or 0.55 per cent to close at 5,655.18.
The two other indices also edged lower. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also declined 5.80 points or 0.44 per cent to close at 1,289.54.
The DS30 comprising blue chips shed over 10.20 points or 0.51 per cent to close at 1,963.89 points.
Turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the main bourse of the country, has reached at Tk 9,655.35 million today, marking a significant decrease from previous session’s Tk 10,267.67 million on Sunday.
Of the issues traded on the DSE, 116 advanced, 199 declined and 30 remained unchanged.
BRAC Bank Ltd was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 255.98 million changing hands followed by OLYMPIC, BBSCABLES, SINGERBD, BEXIMCO, ALIF, DSSL, GP, BDTHAI and PTL.
Alif Manufacturing Company Ltd was also the day's top gainer, posting a rise of 10 per cent while Phoenix Insurance Company Ltd was the day's worst loser, posting a decline of 9.91 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed lower with CASPI, the Overall Share Index, declined 0.86 percent to close at 17,305.30 points.
Of the 274 issues traded on the DSE, 86 advanced, 171 declined and 17 remained unchanged on the port city bourse.
A sum of 18.89 million shares and mutual fund units has been traded, generating turnover of Tk 417.80 million.
