DSE, CSE end flat after volatile trading

DHAKA: The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) surrendered their early gains to close on negative note on Sunday (Feb 3) amid cautious movements of the investors.

The bourses opened on positive note and the key index of DSE went up by 21 points to reach at 5,839.89 points at 10:50am. But did not sustain its upward momentum and displayed fluctuate movement.

At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 19.67 points or 0.33 per cent to settle at 5,801.33, followed by two consecutive losing sessions. 

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 4.12 points to finish at 2003.84.

However, another index ended higher. The DSE Shariah Index saw gain of 0.77 point to close at 1311.37 and. 

Turnover, the most important indicator of the market, dipped Tk 9842.12 million to Tk 9927.37 million.

Of the issues traded, 133 declined, 186 advanced and 27 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. A total number of 196246 trades were executed in the day’s trading session.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd topped the turnover chart again with 48.45 million shares worth Tk 752.32 million changing hands.

ICB MCL Mutual Fund was the best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent while Apollo Ispat Complex Limited was the worst loser, losing 8.79 per cent.

However, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) edged lower with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – losing 99 point to settle at 17,781.90.

The losers beat gainers as 274 issues closed lower, 99 ended higher and 9 issues remained unchanged on the CSE. The port city’s bourse traded worth Tk 367.31 million in turnover.
