DHAKA: Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday (Feb 6) said special audit will be initiated in the public banks for realizing money from the loan defaulters.
He was addressing an annual business conference of Rupali Bank as chief guest at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital city.
“Special audit will be carried out at every government bank to prevent irregularities in the banking sector. Three audit firms have been assigned for identifying the customers who did not return the money in last three years,” said Mustafa Kamal.
“To reduce the default loan, banks need to change strategy at its branch level. Before lending, check thoroughly without thinking about long-term profit. If not, the banks have to suffer in getting back the loan money”.
While addressing the programme, Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir said mid-level management must be cautious in ensuring corporate good governance in the banking sector. Otherwise, good governance will not be established.
With Rupali Bank chairman Manjur Hossain in the chair, Financial Institution Division additional Secretary Fazlur Rahman and Rupali Bank managing director Ataur Rahman Prodhan also spoke the programme.
