DHAKA: Stocks witnessed another downtrend session, extending the losing spell for second consecutive sessions in a row on Wednesday (Feb 6) amid investors selling pressure.
The capital bourse of the country opened on positive but the market failed to maintain the positive trend as the session progressed.
At the close of day’s trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse went down by 14.23 points or 0.24 percent to reach 5,786.
The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 5.0 point to close at 1,312.
However, another index ended higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also rose over 1.35 points to finish at 2022.57.
Of the issues traded, 114 gained, 185 declined and 47 remained unchanged.
“Risk averse investors opted for taking profit and late hour selling pressures moved the market to red zone,” EBL Securities in its daily market analysis.
Shares worth Tk 7,668 million changed hands at the DSE on the fourth trading session of the week.
United Power Generation and Distribution Company Limited topped the turnover leaders with 1.8 million shares worth Tk 737 million traded.
The CSE overall share index, CASPI also lost 16 point to reach 17,718.70 points at the close today.
Of the 277 issues traded, 97 advanced, 151 suffered loss and 29 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues was Tk 360.10 million.
