DHAKA: The government on Wednesday (Feb 27) has approved thirteen development projects with an estimated expenditure of Tk 12,459-crore.
The projects were approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) held at NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area in the capital.
ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
After the meeting, planning minister MA Mannan was talking to the journalists.
He further said that the government will provide Tk 9,481-crore while rests will be provided by the respective organizations and come from project assistance.
Indian investors have given special importance to investing in Bangladesh. A project has been approved for this involving an overall estimated cost of Tk 846 crore, MA Mannan added.
Under the project titled ‘Barapukuria-Bogra-Kaliakair 400 KV Line’, the government has taken initiative to construct a 120-kilometer 400 KV double circuit high voltage transmission line for import of electricity from India, Nepal and Bhutan to meet up country’s increase demand of electricity.
The planning minister said Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) will implement the project by June, 2012 with an overall expenditure of Tk 3,322 crore. Of this, 1,744 crore will come from Indian loan.
