DHAKA: Some 4,000 workers, who were sacked from factories during the recent unrest in ready-made garment sector, haven’t been reposted yet.
BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association) President Md Siddiqur Rahman revealed the matter during a press conference Monday (Mar 3).
Earlier in the day, he held a meeting with US Ambassador in Dhaka Earl Robert Miller at the BGMEA Bhaban.
“We have issued directives so that any innocent worker doesn’t get harassed or sacked,” said Siddiqur.
Information earlier floated that some 11,000 workers lost jobs during the protests over salary increase. But the number isn’t more than 4,000, said the BGMEA president.
Some of the workers lost jobs due to factory shut down, he added.
