Dishonest businessmen won’t be spared: Finance Minister

DHAKA: Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said dishonest businessmen, who use the borrowed money in wrong places and fail to refund, would not be spared.

“Dishonest businessmen who are using the money borrowed from banks in wrong way wouldn’t be spared. The bank officials who are helping these dishonest traders will also be traced out,” the minister was addressing an annual conference-2019 of Janata Bank at Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh (KIB) at Farmgate on Wednesday (Mar 13).

Issuing an warning to dishonest businessmen, minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said “I can find those bank officials who assisted the dishonest businessmen within three minutes. There will be no unskilled and dishonest officials in the state-owned bank. It will not be difficult to find out them. If one of them is evil, then all achievements become faded.”

The Finance Minister said all banks have to be automated. The world is going ahead with automation. Every day around 273,000 crore people run e-mails, 4,200 crore people browse the internet. Changes will have to be brought through using technology.

“Come on with blockchain technology. You must bring a comprehensive technology so that everyone can use the same technology”.

Mentioning special audit, the minister said “Special audits will be made in all the institutions, but it is not for defaming anyone. I took charge of the ministry not to send anyone to jail. Do not take action unless found evidence. Equality is needed in the economy. It should be kept in mind as if divide is not bigger. I know this is not possible in a day, but I can.

Governor of Bangladesh Bank Fazle Kabir, Finance Secretary Abdur Rauf Talukdar and Financial Institution Division Secretary Asadul Islam spoke at the program with Janata Bank Chairman Luna Shamsuddoha in the chair.
