DHAKA: Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said there will be no poor people in the country by 2030.
AHM Mustafa Kamal said, “I used to stay in my students’ houses to carry out my study. I pursued many professions due to poverty. Sometimes, I had to do agricultural work. I understand the pains of being poor. No one will remain poor in the country by 2030.”
AHM Mustafa Kamal said this at Agrani Bank’s annual conference-2019' in the ballroom of InterContinental Dhaka on Thursday (March 14).
He also said, “Poverty shall be driven away from the country. The government won’t fail if we all help the Prime Minister (Sheikh Hasina) in this regard.”
Speaking about banking sector, the minister said, “The banking sector is somehow in a bad condition. Glamour of this sector has to be restored. Facilities have to be extended for valued customers. Awareness should be taken in terms of providing loans. Default loans can not be allowed to rise.”
As regards budget, he said that there is a bad rule to pay taxes. They, only those who pay taxes, are paying taxes. Those who are eligible to pay taxes will be brought under tax net.
