DHAKA: World Bank and Canadian government will give USD 50 million for Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque.
“This money will be spent on healthcare for Rohingyas,” Zahid Maleque told reporters after wrapping up a program on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ministry on Thursday (March 21).
The MoU was signed between World Health Organization, UNICEF, UNFPO, IMO and Health Ministry. Representatives of the organizations were present at the function.
The minister said, “Out of the USD 50 million, World Bank is giving USD 41.67 million while Canadian government is giving USD 8.33 million. Total money will be spent on Rohingyas’ wellbeing.”
Zahid Maleque said World Bank has already given 200 million Dollars for Rohingyas. They said they would give 300 million Dollars more. Now, they are giving 50 million dollars through the MoU.
Meanwhile, 4 agencies have been given 35 million Dollars. This amount will be spent upon building houses, treatment and other sectors as well. The rest 15 million Dollars will be spent through the concerned ministry, Zahid Maleque added.
