DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday (March 26) launched “Nagad”, a digital financial service of Bangladesh Post Office.
Bangladesh Post Office will run the service to meet the increasing demand of money exchange at comparatively low cost and fast and safe ways.
The premier inaugurated the service at her official resident Ganabhaban, in the afternoon.
Sheikh Hasina also released a commemorative postage stamp of Tk 10, a first-day cover of Tk 10 and a data card of Tk 5, on occasion of the 49th Independence and National Day.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Acting Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Ashoke Kumar Biswas and Director General of Bangladesh Post Office Sushanta Kumar Mandal, among others, were present.
However, Nagad, first of its kind service in the country, promises increased financial freedom with additional security and control.
The service will be regulated under the Bangaldesh Postal Act Amendment 2010 Section 3(2), a unique law procured especially for the Bangladesh Post Office.
The service has been introduced in accordance to the “Digital Bangladesh” vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
