DHAKA: Stocks witnessed another downtrend session, extending the losing spell for fourth consecutive sessions in a row on Wednesday (April 10) amid investors selling pressure.
The capital bourse of the country opened day’s session with a marginal loss and continued the trend as the session progressed.
Shares worth Tk 2,748 million changed hands at the DSE on the fourth trading session of the week. Today's turnover was the lowest one of this year.
At the close of day’s trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse went down by 57.14 points or 1.07 percent to reach 5,261.60.
The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 15.13 points or 1.22 percent to close at 1,217.86.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 22.61 points or 1.18 percent to finish at 1,877.92.
Of the issues traded, 64 gained, 231 declined and 53 remained unchanged.
“Investors lost their confidence which caused to decrease the turnover also. The enhancement of interest rate against deposits might have influenced many investors to invest in the money market, rather than the stock market,” EBL Securities in its daily market analysis.
Grameenphone Ltd topped the turnover leaders with 4.9 million shares worth Tk 175.70 million traded.
The CSE overall share index, CASPI also lost 165.21 points or 1.01 percent to reach 16,148.67 points at the close today.
Of the 230 issues traded, 55 advanced, 141 suffered loss and 34 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues was Tk 121.06 million.
